About the film
1.5 Degrees of Peace is an urgent and timely film. This character-driven feature documentary, following the stories of four young activists, in regions impacted by the interconnected forces driving climate change: militarization, conflicts, and systemic violence. The film contrasts our protagonists in their struggle for environmental justice, disarmament, and demilitarization, with the revolutionary love, community, and visionary solutions that exist within these movements.
After meeting our main characters we witness them manage the challenges of living in conflict-torn countries, resist militarization and extractive industries in their homelands, and cope with the complex emotions of being a young person with everything at stake.
The film highlights community-led efforts to address the environmental and humanitarian impacts of militarization and systemic violence; defending the land, protecting environmental defenders, building peace, preserving Indigenous knowledge systems. The film elevates the voices of those breaking down the siloed approaches to solving the climate crisis, exploring how humanity’s liberation is intimately tied with the liberation of our earth.
As we witness the unfolding stories of our young leaders in their communities, expert interviewees weigh in across regions, tying together the global connectedness of these issues.
Through a personal and intimate glimpse into the lives of those daring to dream of solutions, we will see what a world that works could look like.
